* general information
Oi Fashion Rocks is South America’s biggest music and fashion event.
Held at Rio de Janeiro’s Jockey Club, on 27 October 2009, Oi Fashion Rocks united in a single evening live performances by some of the greatest international pop artists with presentations of the Autumn-Winter 2009/2010 collections of leading fashion houses.
The format of the event, broadcast live by TV in over 120 countries, combined each performer with the display of a specific fashion brand, pairing Mariah Carey with the Calvin Klein Collection, Grace Jones with Marc Jacobs and Puff Daddy with Versace.
* technical description of event
Caio Bertti, lighting designer for Oi Fashion Rocks, describes some of his work behind the scenes:
“Mariah Carey, Grace Jones, Puff Daddy, Ja Rule, Daniela Mercury and the other singers did three pieces each, and none of them had brought a lighting designer with them.
“The producers gave us a free hand in creating the lighting design best suited to each performer.
“Some managers explained to us what they’d have liked to see during their artists’ shows: Mariah Carey wanted to be fully lit during her performance, with the dancers around her lit less strongly.
“Grace Jones asked instead for a more ‘mysterious’ mood, with lots of blue, mainly backlit, and smoke, and in certain moments of her set I was using only a single spotlight from the side, to give her face a an even more ‘dramatic’ effect.
“Puff Daddy wanted the moving heads to be moving all the time, with the lights flashing in time to the music.”
