* overview
“Christ the Redeemer” (in Portuguese: Cristo Redentor) is a huge statue of Jesus Christ on the summit of the Corcovado mountain that rises to an altitude of 710 metres above the bay and city of Rio de Janeiro. The statue, about 38 metres tall and one of the world’s best-known monuments, was inaugurated on 12 October 1931.
On 7 July 2007 the statue was named one of the “New Seven Wonders of the World”.

* technical description of the installation
On 6 October 2009, as part of a campaign of public awareness on breast cancer promoted by the Brazilian government, the statue of Christ the Redeemer was the focal point of an event called “Outubro Rosa”.
Eighteen XR2000 BEAM projectors installed on a structure of trusses arranged around the monument lit the Christ the Redeemer statue in pink.
This highly spectacular illumination was visible from the entire bay of Rio and for many kilometres around.
